Approach
Approach
I approached the challenge through multiple research streams: analyzing user feedback and reviews, in-vehicle sound experience testing, and systematically reviewing our existing sound library. This comprehensive analysis enabled clear problem framing for stakeholders and established a foundation for strategic solutions.
Based on these insights, I developed a sound experience strategy focused on creating a subtle, non-intrusive user experience that aligned with both our brand identity and digital interface design. Using a importance-frequency matrix, I mapped all sounds to reveal imbalances and prioritize improvement areas. The matrix analysis allowed me to identify high-priority sounds based on frequency and importance metrics. Collaborating with a sound designer, I then developed new audio elements through iterative in-vehicle testing to ensure both experiential quality and legal compliance.

Challenges
Challenges
A lot of the issues behind the complaints were on a system level which we were not able to address. Keeping to the pure sound design, we needed to understand what possibilities for improvement we had while only working with the characteristics of each sound. As the updates would happen gradually starting with a selected first batch, we also needed to ensure that the updated sounds aligned with the experience we were aiming for while also feeling cohesive with the already existing sounds.
Another challenge was to understand the legal requirements and standards that are imposed on vehicle sounds. Working with the homologation and legal teams we performed rigorous in-car testing to evaluate how elements like tone and pitch affected sound levels and make sure we met existing standards.

Outcome
Outcome
This project delivered both immediate user experience improvements and long-term strategic value. The streamlined sound library addressed user complaints while reducing production costs through the significant reduction in unique audio assets.
The strategic framework I developed not only solved the immediate problems but established a sustainable approach for future sound design decisions, ensuring alignment between user needs, brand identity, and technical constraints.
